SPEC clutch kits for the supercharged 2002-2006 Mini Cooper S are some of the highest quality performance clutch kits on the market. SPEC makes a high performance clutch option for any level of stock or modified Mini Cooper S. All SPEC clutch kits for the 2002-2006 Mini Cooper S include the pressure plate, clutch disc and applicable bearings.
IMPORTANT NOTE on Solid vs. Sprung Clutch Kits
R53 Mini Coopers came from the factory with a dual mass (sprung) flywheel and a solid hub clutch. If you switch to an aftermarket, solid (single mass) flywheel, you need a sprung hub clutch disk (SPEC part numbers that end in "S") to maintain proper clutch operation. These Clutch kits must be installed in combination with a SPEC or OEM flywheel. If you plan on using a new SPEC clutch with the factory flywheel, a solid (unsprung)(SPEC part numbers that end in "R") hub clutch disc is required.

SPEC Stage 1
Stage 1 features an integrally molded carbon kevlar-based, high performance organic lining that offers smooth engagement and excellent life. This lining has an integrally bonded steel backing for strength under high clamp loads and temperatures. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Stage 1 is suggested for OEM replacement, daily driven or lightly modified Mini Coopers. Torque capacity is rated at 235ft/lbs at the crank.

SPEC Stage 2
Stage 2 features a pure Kevlar disc with steel backing. This lining features excellent drivability like the stage 1, but offers slightly longer life and higher torque capacity. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Best for moderately modified or daily driver Mini Coopers. Torque capacity rated at 280ft/lbs at the flywheel.

SPEC Stage 2+
Stage 2+ features a multi-friction disc in a full faced configuration with carbon semi-metallic on one side and Kevlar on the other. The 2+ offers the drivability and engagement quality of stage 2, but with a 15-20% higher torque capacity. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Stage 2+ is suggested for highly modified but daily driver Mini Coopers that will definitely see some track time. Torque capacity is rated at 300ft/lbs at the crank.

SPEC Stage 3
Stage 3 features a carbon semi-metallic 6 puck sprung hub disc that has been the leading pucked clutch in drivability, life & torque capacity. This unit is designed for street & race cars that require an aggressive but streetable engagement & high torque capacity. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility & heat treated for strength and durability. Suggested for highly modified, street, autocross & track driven Mini Coopers. Torque Capacity rated at 315ft/lbs at the crank.

SPEC Stage 3+
Stage 3 is the flagship stage for a high powered street or race car that requires a manageable and friendly engagement, the stage 3+ features a carbon semi-metallic full faced material that offers unparalleled life, friction co-efficient and drivability characteristics in one single package. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Suggested for very highly modified, streetable autocross & track driven Mini Coopers. Torque capacity rated at 420ft/lbs at the crank.

SPEC Stage 4 RACE CLUTCH
Stage 4 is simply a solid hub version of the stage 3. The Stage 4 hub is solid 8-rivet and the assembly is heat treated for strength and durability. It is available in a 3, 4 or 6 puck configuration. Use the 3 puck for the lightest option or the 6 puck for the smoothest engagement. The 4 puck is a good compromise for both. Street drivable in 6 puck configuration, but not street friendly due to the rigid hub. This is an extremely heavy duty clutch when used with a solid flywheel is only recommended in this configuration with a dual mass flywheel. Suggested for full race and track driven Mini Coopers only. Torque capacity is rated at 315ft/lbs at the crank.

SPEC Stage 4 Solid Hub # SB004
SPEC Stage 5 RACE CLUTCH
Stage 5 features a full-metallic disc with the highest possible friction co-efficient. Street drivable but not street-friendly. The hub is solid 12-rivet and the assembly is heat treated for strength and durability. This clutch is suggested for drag race only Mini Coopers. Torque capacity is rated at 490ft/lbs at the crank.
